31-05-2017

The third round of the 2017 Australian Kart Championship saw over 200 competitors journey to South Australia’s Monarto Karting Complex over the weekend of May 26-28. The impressive circuit produced close racing across the weekend and introduced some new faces to the podium. Showers both days did little to dampen sprits with only a few races rain affected.

Cadet 9 Vortex Mini Rok

Defending Champion Ryan Tomsett bounced back from lacklustre run in the heat races to take an impressive win in the Cadet 9 Vortex Mini Rok final and move into the series lead. Toby Dvorak, winner of heats three and four, finished second with Emerson Vincent third. With two rounds of the series remaining the championship battle is very much alive. Just

13 points separate Ryan Tomsett and second placed Harry Arnett with Toby Dvorak a further 22 points behind.

Cadet 12 Vortex Mini Rok

The Cadet 12 Vortex Mini Rok final produced the closest finish of the weekend with just 0.088 of a second separating James Wharton, Marcos Flack and Adrian Haak as they

crossed the finish line. The trio swapped for the race lead throughout the 16-lap final, but it was Championship leader James Wharton who claimed the top step of the dais and extended his championship lead to sit 82 points clear of Fletcher Harris.

KA2 Vortex DVS Junior Rok

Lachlan Hughes produced a dominating win in the KA2 Vortex DVS Junior Rok final, greeting the chequered flag over five seconds ahead of Tate Frost and Christian Pancioni. Pole sitter for the final Broc Feeney won the first two heat races but a carburettor issue during the final saw him drop to sixth. Hughes holds a 14-point lead over Feeney in the championship chase with Tate Frost currently sitting third in the standings.

KA1 Vortex DVS Senior Rok

Kyle Henry Smith raced to an impressive victory in the rain affected KA1 Vortex DVS Senior Rok final. The win marked the first time Henry-Smith’s has claimed the top step of the podium in this class. Defending champion Scott Sorensen who led the 20-lap final until the final lap finished second ahead of Daniel Edmonds.
