Round 5 2017 Australian Kart Championship
Cadet 9 Vortex Mini Rok
Ryan Tomsett secured his second Cadet 9 Vortex Mini Rok title in succession. The
defending champion finished second overall for the round to claim the title by 13 points
ahead of Harry Arnett. Cadel Ambrose won the round and ended the season third overall.
Cadet 12 Vortex Mini Rok
Despite securing the Cadet 12 Vortex Mini Rok title at the previous round, James Wharton
battled with Fletcher Harris across the weekend for the top step of the final podium of the
year. Harris went on to win the final and claim second place in the championship standings.
In winning the title, Wharton who finished the round second, was presented with an
invitation to compete in the coveted Rok Cup International Final in Italy in October. He will
be joined by Harris who also received an invitation as a result of his championship
standing.
KA2 Vortex DVS Junior Rok
The battle for the KA2 Vortex DVS Junior Rok title went down to the wire with Broc Feeney
qualifying on pole and wining the first three heat races. Championship rival Lachlan Hughes was left
ruing after an opening lap DNF in the final heat on Sunday morning before going on to win the final
ahead of Christian Pancione and Feeney. In the end it was Feeney who claimed the championship
win nine points ahead of Hughes. Feeney will now prepare for the 2017 Rok Cup International Final
in Italy in October.
KA1 Vortex DVS Senior Rok
Scott Sorensen successfully defended his KA1 Vortex DVS Senior Rok title, winning the final round
of the series ahead of Jace Matthews and Mathew Stenner. Rival Kyle Henry-Smith who was
leading the series coming into the season finale, suffered a DNF in the final, losing a wheel on the
opening lap. Henry-Smith ended the season second in the championship standings. Sorensen will
now turn his attention to preparing for the 2017 Rok Cup International Final in Italy in October.
