Vortex racer Sorensen sets new bar in Australia

28-05-2018

Vortex DVS-SV racer, Scott Sorensen has become the driver with the most Australian Kart Championship round wins by taking his ninth career Final victory in the third event of the series in Newcastle, New South Wales on Sunday.

The Queenslander, who was driving the Australian built Arrow chassis, took a dominant win in the KA1 class that exclusively utilises the Vortex DVS-SV.

The win sees him assume the Championship lead as well. Last year, through winning the Championship, Sorensen took part in the Rok International Cup and started the final on the front row of the grid.

He beat home hard charging Kosmic racer, Joshua Denton who got himself in front of first round winner and Series leader heading into the weekend, AWC Motorsport Academy pilot, Lachlan Dalton.

South Australian Jimmy Piszcyk moved himself to second in the Vortex Mini-Rok Cadet 12 category taking a hard fought win against 48 other competitors. It was his first Championship win and the first for EVO Kart since entering the Australian Kart Championship two years ago.

Piszcyk withstood a challenge from Alex Ninovic who had proven to be the pace throughout the course of the weekend winning a majority of his heat races through the AvBvC group racing format.

Coming home a narrow third - just half a second covering the top three - was Victorian, Joe Fawcett.

Jaiden Pope became a maiden round winner in the Vortex DVS KA2 Junior category. The Victorian has been looking for a win in the category for some time, however hasn’t stitched the entire weekend together until Newcastle.

He crossed the line 1.8 seconds ahead of last round winner James Wharton - who had a difficult weekend until the final. Taylor Hazard secured his first podium.

Another first time Championship winner came in the Vortex Mini-Rok Cadet 9 when Peter Bouzinelos took a 0.721 second win over Jenson Burns. Burns pushed hard but was unable to match the Victorian. Series leader heading into the event, Kart Republic’s Lewis Francis completed the podium.

In all, 103 competitors lined up for the four Vortex-powered categories at the third round of the Australian Kart Championship.

The SP Tools AKC now moves to Emerald in Queensland in late July for its penultimate round.
