Round 4 2017 Australian Kart Championship
Cadet 9 Vortex Mini Rok
The Cadet 9 Vortex Mini Rok final delivered the closest racing of the weekend with
up to seven karts in contention to take the win throughout the 16-lap race. In the
end, it was series leader Harry Arnett who greeted the chequered flag first, ahead
of Ryan Tomsett and the series first female to grace the podium, Maddison Feather.
Cadet 12 Vortex Mini Rok
James Wharton took a clean sweep of the Cadet 12 Vortex Mini Rok class and with
a 127-point lead in the series, became the first Australian Karting Champion-elect of
the 2017 season. Wharton won the final by two seconds ahead of Adrian Haak and
Fletcher Harris. With 18 points separating Haak, Harris and Marcos Flack in the
championship standings it is the battle for second and third that will play out at the
final round of the series in Melbourne.
KA2 Vortex DVS Junior Rok
While Broc Feeney dominated the KA2 Vortex DVS Junior Rok heat races it was Christian
Pancione who emerged victorious in the all important final. Starting from second on the grid,
Pancione got a great start and was quickly immersed in a six-kart battle for the lead. While
the lead changed many times over the course of the race, Pancione came through to claim
his maiden round win. Lachlan Hughes raced from eighth to finish second with Harrison
Hoey claiming third place, edging out Feeney as they crossed the line. The championship
battle will be decided in Melbourne with just four points separating Feeney and Hughes at
the top of the standings.
KA1 Vortex DVS Senior Rok
In the KA1 Vortek DVS Senior Rok class Kyle Henry-Smith took his second round win in succession and
in doing so, moved to the top of the championship standings. While defending Champion Scott Sorensen
led for much of the final, he battled with Henry Smith, swapping for the race lead no less than six times
over two laps. Henry-Smith won by 0.4 seconds ahead of Sorensen with the Paul Feeney Groups
Mathew Stenner finishing third to claim his first podium of the season.
