Local drivers score big wins
Round two of the 2008 Engen Supa Kart national championships at the Celso Scribante circuit in Port Elizabeth produced some superb racing with very few incidents.
There was a strong entry in the Junior Rok class and Port Elizabeth’s Justin Allen took pole position and went on to win all three races to take a dominant overall win for the Engen Extreme TonyKart team.
Two second places gave Adrian Wood (Birel) the runner-up trophy as PE racer Loukea van Steijn (Vision Systems Birel) was third each time to take the final podum position.
Last year’s 60cc GP Junior champion Chad Maciver put in a superb performance to claim fourth for the Jacques Lemans F1 PCR team as Chad van Beurden (Birel) and Sam Tingle (Monster Motors CRG) completed the top six.
Barely a week after a satisfying Formula Volkswagen debut local hero Simon Moss (Engen Extreme TonyKart) treated spectators to a brilliant display of driving as he easily won all three races in the Super Rok event after starting from pole position.
At the opening round Moss had a motor that was down on power and now that it’s got all its horses Moss was in a class of his own. Teammate Michael Stephen shared the front row and was runner-up in each of the three races as Peter Daly was third for the day after a strong final heat to make it an all TonyKart podium.
Dylan Martin (TonyKart) scored his best result to date in taking a hard earned third place in the opening race but eventually went home with fourth place overall after being tied on 87 points with Daley.
Durban’s smooth driving Shaun la Reservee (Alpine Motors TonyKart) was placed third in race two which gave him fifth as he was tied on 82 points with Johannesburg’s lady racer Fabienne Lanz (Jacques Lemans PCR) who prevented a TonyKart whitewash.
Moss also won the Formula BMW event supporting the Malaysian Grand Prix and the 16 year old is going to be hard to beat this year.
The spectacular Idube circuit near Pietermaritzburg is the next stop for the Rok Cup on 28 June.
