STC-Rok Cup Singapore Round 1

27-04-2015

The first round of the 4 rounds of Rok Cup Singapore held at KF1 Karting Circuit has finally started . The first round saw entries of close to 60 drivers driving in the class of Mini Rok, Junior Rok, Senior Rok and the all new Rok DVS class. Drivers with nationalities from Singapore , Indonesia , United Kingdom , India and Malaysia all came together to race in this prestigious race to fight for entries in the Rok Cup final to be held in Italy in Oct.

It was a very wet race from qualifying to final 1 and on final 2 was the only time that the track saw some dryness. The race was conducted in 2 different kind of lighting situation , Final 1 in day light and Final 2 under F1 lighting which is probably first of its kind in Singapore.

Drivers were allocated to their racing engines by balloting on every round as to give a better fairness to the competition.

The senior class is the most anticipated class as they were many good drivers in this class and the hot favourite were Senna Noor (FA kart) from Indonesia , Thaddeus Lee (Birel-ART) , Amin Norzilan (Birel-ART) Arvin Esmali (FA Kart) , Hari Elavarsu (FA Kart) .

The fastest lap in qualifying was clocked by Thaddeus Lee and he went on to win the final 1 race but unfortunately on Final 2 he suffered a picture that saw him dropped his pace but still managed to finished his race.

But the most exciting driver of that night was Hari Elavarsu who started on fifth and on the opening lap was able to get into the first position who drove brilliantly from the start to the end and finished first.

For junior Rok it was a battle field as well . The hot favourite was Prassetyo from Indonesia and he set the fastest lap time during qualifying but was not able to turn his fast lap into success during race and after Final 1 and Final 2 we saw Dominic Quek consistency paid off as he emerged as the champion in the junior class. The first and second runner Daniel Frost and Caelan Wong were both rookie in their class.

The Elite 30s and the Elite 40s with a combined drivers of 12 was a race to watch too as David Bondi with his FA kart qualified almost 2 sec ahead of his closest rival in the rain. He drove a perfect race from the start to the end and emerged victories.

The Elite 40s hot favorite Jeremy Lee was not able to find the setup he wanted he could only qualified in the middle of the field and that left the window opened for Henry Woo to collect the extra 3 points for pole position . Jeremy was more composed during the final 2 as Henry Woo went into a spin in turn 1 and Jeremy finished first in his class. However , because of the point system Jeremy lost the champion position to Henry Woo when he managed to finish in third.

Overall everyone enjoyed thoroughly during this round 1 of the STC Rok Cup in Singapore and until then we shall meet again on 30 May 2015.
