Round 2 brings tough fights in all four ROK classes

20-05-2025

The second round of the Romanian ROK Cup was the completion of the “Prejmer Spring”, confirming the sustained interest of the most determined drivers for the full season and the titles at stake. Just like in the opener, the weather variable mattered on Saturday, but from then on the Sunday finals took place in dry track conditions.

In Micro ROK we had the same clear distinction: Dragoș Ciuleanu (7Motorsport) and Adam Diaconu (BRT) battled up front, each of them managing two race wins. However, compared to the first round of 2025, the pursuing pack was somehow closer, with Aris Oancea (CSSK), Tudor Stamatoiu (Drinago Racing) and Diegis Cășuneanu (Artmedica Ace Performance) each having the pace to finish third in the races.

Mini ROK was once again the most populated category, with 18 participants. The second event confirmed that Gergo Buzas (CSSK), Radu Băsescu-Pricop (Real Racing) and Darren Betea (7Motorsport) are all genuine title contenders. All three won races this weekend, with Buzas unbeatable on Saturday,
after which he secured the overall Rd. 2 victory with two second places in the Sunday races. Thus, he increased his lead in the general classification by 20 points over Băsescu-Pricop and by 26 points over Betea. The Under 10 subcategory went to Andreas Drugău (Gulstar Racing), and the Mini ROK Lady trophy was claimed by Antonia Vidican (Vidi Top Sport).

In the absence of Sonia Crivoiruc (Real Racing), the Junior ROK dispute was particularly balanced between Alexandru Nechifor (JMS Performance) and Călin Costea (Gulstar Racing). Each one won two races, but the decisive factor was an incident for Costea on Sunday morning. Thus, he missed out on the weekend overall victory, which went to Nechifor, but the Gulstar driver takes the lead in the general classification, since his opponent from JMS was absent from the first round. Carla-Maria Roșu (Real Racing), Matvei Cupnîi (Forza Moldova) and Robert Dumitrescu (Drinago Racing) also celebrated podiums in various races, Roșu also winning the Junior ROK Lady trophy.

The Senior ROK category intensified its battles in the second round, as some drivers with a solid background and notable performances, such as Istvan Dezso (JMS Performance) and Eric Bălan (Formula K RO) entered the arena. They overtook the trio that had been engaged in the duels for victory in the first meeting of the year, but Alexandru Zănescu (JMS Performance) remains the leader in the general classification. Bălan would have had a better chance of winning  if he had not faced technical problems at both starts on Sunday, as a result of which he was forced to start from pit lane each time. On the other hand, Dezso's success was not without emotions either, given the incident in which he was involved in the third race with Mihnea Lorent (Real Racing).

In three weeks time, the Romanian ROK Cup changes scenery, visiting the Bucharest racetrack.
